Well, I'm trying to figuring out what to do.
I do everything on a Mac Pro first edition and I'm running Snow Leopard 10.6.4 and PT 9.0.2
Now, the problem is.. the Mac Pro is getting older.. and I have to start to plan upgrading it
But, for many reasons, I think I have to keep producing on the Mac Pro and I was planning to get a Mac Mini to start the transition.. and in 1 or 2 years.. get a new Mac Pro.
But.. to do that, I should be able to keep working on the Mac Pro and be able to open every sessions done in PT9, in the Mac Mini.. with ideally PT11
But... PT11 is only 64bit right? So I was thinking to keep PT10 for a while.. until I'm ready to completely switch to PT11
But... PT10 doesn't run on a new Mac Mini, right? So I wouldn't be able to work with the Mac Pro with PT9 and the Mac Mini with PT11.. meaning put a session I'm working in the Mac Pro to the Mac Mini, open it with PT11, work there, save it.. and go back to the Mac Pro and work in there.. right?
So, I don't know, I'm really getting crazy here.. I don't know what to do.
The only thing I know is that the Mac Pro cost me 2.5k and served me well for almost 8 years, so that's like 312 euros per year.. so cheaper than a PC.. and that's why I justified spending 2.500 euros in a computer.
Now.. to have the same.. I have to spend 3k and more euros, plus 1.500 and some for a case that allows me to use 4 HD (which I need), plus software, adapters, everything I'm forgetting. Which in the end will be around 5k I don't have and I don't justify spending in a computer.
That's why, at least for production (recording), I wanted to keep the Mac Pro and get something more powerful for mixing or when I need more power.
Getting a Mini is a 1100 euros and something.. and that's it. Then in the mean time.. hoping prices will drop.. I'll be able to get a case to put HDs.. and complete the transition.. so then I'll be able to only use PT11
But I'm kind of slaloming between system requirements and I can't find a way to do that.. I mean.. I think, if I get a mini, I'll be stuck using the Mac Pro and with the Mini collecting dust
It seems really a nightmare out there, I mean, I never experienced so many troubles changing a computer as in these years..
And all that without taking in account the eventual compatibility problems opening PT9 sessions in PT11.. (ok using PT10 in between) because just reading the thread titles here in Duc.. I'm already scared.. I mean I cannot afford to get a corrupted session or to not be able to open correctly a session...
I hope we will have a period of quiet after all that rush.. I mean do we really can afford to upgrade everything so fast? And paying more than double the price because for some reasons, while usually in these years, computers, getting used every years by more people than the year before.. went down in price not up...
Well.. sorry for the "rant" but I'm asking you.. which is the smart thing to do today if you are in my situation? Any suggestion?
