I wanted to take a moment to say a good word about Alchemy from Camel Audio. First a confession: when I first got it, I just assumed (because I really didn't read too deeply about it) that Alchemy was pretty much a large Rompler style sample player. So, once I got it, and probably like most users do, I just used it for the great sample libraries that you can get for it. Yeah, I saw there were all these additional edit controls, but I didn't fool with them too much....until a couple of weeks ago, I decided it was time to dig a little deeper. Well, what I've discovered is GOLD! Wow, what a powerful instrument this is! It is NOT just a sample player with cool sample libraries...though it certainly has that. It is also a powerful VI with multiple ways to manipulate either sampled or old style analog wave forms, or combine them to create amazing new sounds! All that coupled with the morphing capability gives you an instrument with intense sonic power!
I'm just beginning my exploration, and I'm finding the "Alchemy Explained" tutorials from Groove 3 very helpful here. If you're looking to add a new VI with versatile capability...this is the ONE!
One word of caution, however: The current version is still VST. It sits nicely in either Reaper via Rewire OR Blue Cat Audio's Patchwork (which is what I use). Sometime later this year (Camel Audio can't say when for sure) we will see Alchemy 2.0, which will not only boast a lot of great new features, but also be fully AAX for PT!
My only regret is that I waited so long to dig further into it...I've had it for like 8 months or more now! My bad!!!
And a sidenote: their two plugins, CamelPhat and Camel Space are also amazing and versatile. Both are in Beta for AAX right now, so expect to see that release any time now.
