One way of many to do things with control surface, remote preamps for tracking.
(Template builds recommended)
With an Avid c/24 and remote controllable preamps I setup 24 pre-record-faders for riding record gain.
I course-gain-adjust at the preamps then route the analog preamps into aux input tracks that are bus assigned to record tracks.
This resembles a split-console..style for tracking.
1st bank of 24 for gain rideable faders with inserts for low latency plugs.
i.e. Pre record aux tracks.
2nd bank for monitoring, headphone sends and general reballancing for layoffs at the end of the session.
i.e. Post recording mixing
