Hi there!
I'm new to these forums, but have been scouring them for a while trying to find a clear answer to my question. I've found certain threads leading me in several directions, so I wanted to post this for clarity regarding my question(s).
I purchased ProTools 10 about three years ago with an academic license. I also worked at the campus computer store where ProTools academic was sold and we were told repeatedly to warn student buyers that with an academic license they would not be able to produce any commercial projects without first upgrading to a professional license.
I'm at the point where I need to begin using ProTools for commercial work, and I also need to upgrade to ProTools 11. I'm also using an iMac running OSX 10.6 and it's long overdue for an upgrade to Mavericks, but I was warned against upgrading while using ProTools 10 due to compatibility issues with that OS.
Basically, I would like to upgrade to ProTools 11 and Maverick, but I can't find a clear answer as to what my options are. Originally I was worried that I would need to fully repurchase all of ProTools 11 for $700, but I've since found some threads suggesting that I only need to now pay the upgrade fee for ProTools 11, and others saying that as long as it is within four years of purchase, my upgrade may still be free under the academic license. I also can't find anything on switching from an academic license to avoid issues with commercial work or if that is no longer an Avid policy.
Any suggestions would be very much appreciated! Thanks for your help!
