help me.

I purchased the Avid Vocal Studio in Nov 2012. I couldn't really figure it out then and i'm busting it out again now to try and maybe record a podcast. I figured out how to record alright however we couldn't figure out how to hear what we were saying. currently i'm using the microphone that came in the box. I downloaded what it prompted me to although I am wondering if I did it wrong. also it barely seems to pick up much sound and obviously no play back. please help!
