iLok and identity theft

I have been a very vocal supporter of the iLok concept since it's inception. I agree with the concept and up until they changed the system to reside on our computer, I had been pleased it.

Since they went to the iLok 2 and the computer vs online based system software, I have had to iLok2 failures requiring sending my iLok in to recover the licenses and reissue in my account. Both went fine regardless of the $50 cost I incurred to ship it to them (from Canada) and the $50 cost to get a new iLok 2

This latest issue was greeted with a "we'll send you a free iLok 2 but you pay shipping ($15.00)". When I tried to check out, i received an email saying to process my card they need the following:

- photocopy of both sides of my Credit Card

- photocopy of 2 gov't issued IDs - Driver's License and Passport are the 2 I have.

This is to process a $15.00 charge. They had no problem using the same credit card over the last few years for my ZDT coverage.

With the info they requested, anyone in the company could get a credit card issued to my name, get a mortgage, etc. They can effectively clone me. Classic case of Identity Theft waiting to happen.

Needless to say I told them what they could with the free iLok but I must say, beware. there is something crooked going on. Maybe they wanted me to decline the "free" replacement iLok. Or maybe they are collecting identity data.

In any case.... be careful and my support for iLok is over. I am astounded at their unprofessional and underhanded techniques. Sadly I have no way of eliminating them.
