I'm still pretty new to DAWs and everything included.
I am wanting to use Pro Tools mostly for electronic mixing, using MIDI and plugins and Virtual Instruments and not much live recording besides vocals.
Since PT11 requires plugins to be AAX, which is still rather new and limits the use of older plugins that don't upgrade to support AAX, would it be advisable to use PT10 instead so that I have a wider variety of possible plugins and Virtual Instruments to use? I am mostly using just free plugins in PT11 right now, while I experiment with Pro Tools and producing in DAWs, but as I understand it PT11 requires AAX while PT10 still allows other formats. Is that correct?
One last side question, are Virtual Instruments the same as AAX plugins? In other words, are the AAX format softwares too, or something else entirely? I'm still learning about these things. I just want to be able to compose with MIDI and then have the widest option of sounds available to create, edit, and choose from.
