Waveform gone totally black

Hi all .... weird thing happened, I recorded two guitar tracks on a PT11 session, saved and exited. I recorded them at about -16db ... so quietly that the waveform was barely visible. But when I came back into the session, they were at 0db and the waveform had grown to fill up the entire track display .... anyone had this happen before?
