Hi Guys
As a newbie I appologise if this is posted in the wrong section!
I'm looking for advice in setting up a PC upgrade in readiness to swap from being a cubase user to a Pro Tools user.
My intended upgrade is:
ASUS z97 delux MB
i7 4790 processor
32GB Ram
250GB PCIe M.2 SSD
Further 250GB SSD
to add to exisiting:-
2 x 500GB HDD
Motu 24 i/o with PCI card
I have undertaken all the exporting process from cubase in readiness to import into PT 11 all of which is stored on 1 of the 500GB HDD's.
I intend to clean and format the other HDD, which is currently my C: drive hosting OS, programs, VST's and plug ins before I carry out the physical upgrade and new installation of Win 8.1. (and yes I will backup the files before I start)
My thoughts are to partition the M.2 SSD and load windows 8.1 to one partition and Pro Tools 11 to the other partition.
I thought I could then load VST's and plug ins to the other SSD.
My question is do I use the second SSD to save my projects and associated .wav files or use the HDD's? I've read, and am a bit confused over the writing limitations of SSD's. My concern is as you are recording new projects you may make many takes of a track before pinning it, which means multiple writes to the SSD.
You may also think my use of the M.2 is wrong so am happy for all feedback.
I am so looking forward to getting to know Pro Tools and taking advantage of all the features it has over my old Cubase DAW.
Hope you can help
Rob
