Hi, folks.
I am a long-time PT native user. I have been stuck on PT9 for several years, after suffering through many problems with 8. I have been using a 2010 MBP i7 OSX 10.6.8 and had minimal problems.
After achieving a stable setup, I frankly avoided joining the beta parades on 10 and 11 until now. I recently acquired an HP Z400 and decided to upgrade. I purchased a new license, mostly because I am loath to surrender a working PT9 setup anticipating problems with 10 and 11. And I have several older plugins that I still like to utilize
The HP is wiped, with a clean install of Win7 64 bit. I have not yet initiated the optimizations prior to install, nor have I loaded any drivers as yet. In fact, I haven't even powered up the machine since receiving it.
I will need to install and utilize PT 10, because the older 32 bit plugins are important for my purposes. But I will be installing 11 (and then 12) as quickly as I can.
I'm looking for the wisdom of the group. Beyond following the system optimization and installation steps Avid has outlined, does anyone have advice for how to minimize future pain via my initial setup? Frankly, one reason I have avoided the move (beyond the pricing issues) is the number of issues that seem to have arisen with both of these releases, but most notably PT11.
Searching the forum yields mostly troubleshooting. I hope to avoid (or at least minimize) problems with best advice for both 10 and 11 system setup and installation procedures.
You can pry my PT9 license from my cold, dead hand! But I would like to join the fun with the new features on 10, 11 and 12, while minimizing discomfort any way I can!
Bizarre question, but any advice will be gratefully received. Thanks for your attention
