Howdy folks. First time poster, first time PT 11 user with a brand new computer, brand new software (not updated from a previous version). I will try to be as detailed as possible. I'm not computer illiterate, but not really savvy either.
Current computer set up is AMD 8350 quad core: 4 GHz, 16 GB ram, running Windows 8.1 64 bit. RME Fireface 800 interface.
So far: Protools 11 installed and activated. FF800 installed, with proper drivers installed and effective. I know this because the many ins and outs are displayed in my "Manage Audio Devices" sound menu. As well, Total Mix screen comes up on my desktop and the Fireface settings dialogue box is open and able to make changes to the hardware unit (such as phantom power on and off). I had a problem once with the FF not recognizing the computer, but this was quickly remedied by reinstalling the latest FF drivers.
Opening PT 11 results in the dialogue box: "The selected ASIO audio device could not be initialized. Please choose another audio device."
While searching the forums and found similar issues I've discovered two things: 1) download the ASIO4ALL driver, and 2) hold down N when starting PT. Done and done. I can now select between ASIO4ALL driver and ASIO Fireface in the Playback Engine dropdown menu.
The result is getting the same dialogue box as mentioned above. Neither engine results in PT opening a session. I'm stuck.
The confusing thing is that I've actually been able to open PT once, and fireface inputs came up in the ins/outs on the mixer channel (albeit all in stereo pairs because of the stupid WDM streaming device). Not sure why that 1 time was special, but it does give me hope that there's an answer somehow.
Another problem that I am facing is that all of the RME literature is explained in earlier versions of Windows, and since then menu options have changed. So I'm not sure If I'm missing an important window, or not sure how to get into windows they are describing in 8.1
Does it have anything to do with Drivers?
Does it have anything to do with RME totalmix being open or closed?
Does it have anything to do with ASIO 4ALL or WDMs?
Is it a software issue?
Really stuck. If I've left out an important detail please ask and I will verify. Any help here would be really appreciated.
Thank you :-)
