Using S/PDIF and aux inputs simultaneously

I have an mbox3 pro. I am currently running an ART DPS II preamp through S/PDIF to gain an additional 2 channels. Can I also run another preamp through the aux inputs (5 and 6) and record 7 or 8 channels simultaneously? Do these aux inputs bypass the mbox's preamps and/or D/A converters?
