Guitar scale length

Putting this here as we don't have a guitar forum and I don't think this would be welcome in the 11 Rack forum. Got an email today from Sweetwater linking to a YouTube video where Mitch Gallagher demos Gibson's new Les Paul with a 25.5 inch scale. If that sounds familiar that's the usual scale length of Strats and Telecasters. It's a different sound for sure. There's two different neck profiles - one a fat 50's and the other the slim 60's profile. I sure hope Gibson has a good hard case for this one as none of the existing ones or aftermarket cases will work.

This got me off on a whole tangent of scale length on guitars and bases. Found an article that talked about why some 7 string guitars and 5 string basses don't sound all that good and scale length had a lot to do with it. One way talked about was fanning the frets along with scale length varying and someone mentioned Dingwall guitars.

Odd looking fretboards to say the least. Anybody ever hear of these?
