We're deep in the middle of audio post on animated series. Doing the usual Foley of individual character actions (footsteps, galloping, flapping wings, hands, etc.) has been a real chore in the Pro Tools edit window (many hours pushing clips around on the screen).
A couple of months ago I loaded up (3) custom Structure sampler instruments with everything we typically need for an episode. I had two big concerns: Would this be significantly faster than the clip method? Would it be reliable enough to use in a mix?
I'm very pleased to report that playing the Foley in live via a MIDI keyboard cuts the edit time in half (!), and Structure 1.1.0.994 with PT 10.3.8 and OS 10.8.5 has been completely reliable. Ironically, once in a while when PT chokes, it usually fires off the MIDI accurately, so Structure has technically been more reliable than standard PT tracks.
I know lots of editors work this way, so we're not breaking ground, but I think it's worth a look if you haven't tried. Features like round-robin sample switching, and one-shot envelopes make the sampler sound good.
