Why doesn't Avid make all plugins/channels act like Waves NLS?

Reading a ridiculous analogue vs digital thread just now made me wonder.

Waves NLS (Non-Linear Summing) is a plugin that consists of two elements. A channel plugin, and a buss plugin.

The non-linear aspect of the summing is created by loading (rather than copying and pasting) the NLS channel plugin on individual channels. Each instance that you load is different from the one previous...

Most would agree that this is much more akin to analogue equipment.

Why hasn't a DAW manufacturer considered it?

No two channels on an analogue console are the same.

No two analogue 1176 compressors are the same.

No two Neve 1073's are the same.

Yet in the digital realm, every instance of a 1176 plugin is identical. Same compression characteristics. Same tone. Even the non-linear aspects within it will be uniform across every instance.

To me, it seems like such a thing would be a terrific upgrade for HEAT. I love Heat, but I suspect it applies the exact same algorithm to every single channel.

I don't doubt something like this could go as far as the mind is willing to travel, but how about starting with a switch on the heat master panel that has "Analogue <-> Digital".

Digital being how heat currently is.

Analogue adding a degree of non-linearity to each channel in the mix.

Something to ponder.
