fixing mouth noises (smacks, clicks)

Good morning everyone:

A friend of mine sent me a 10 minute VO recording of his dad, asking me to edit a few flubs. The recording isn't bad, but there are a lot of audible and distracting mouth noises (clicks, lip smacks). I told him that ideally he would re-record his dad but beforehand make sure his dad drinks water, maybe place the microphone in a different position etc., but for a variety of logistical reasons that isn't really an option.

I read here that you can actually fix this in post:

By "volume graphs", Randy Thom means very small adjustments in the volume so as to suppress the smacks, right?

Someone recommended Sonic Solutions declicker plugin. I have iZotope's RX3 myself, might that be helpful?

I've been out of the "audio world" for a couple of months (swamped by my day job) so my PT skills are slightly rusty. This is a favor for a friend so I don't want to spend a lot of money on new plugins, I have a few weeks to fix it.

Many thanks for any thoughts / suggestions.
