It's been a bit more than 2 years since I started another thread about this issue (that was with PT10 and previous Mac OS). I was hoping that upgrading to PT11 and Mavericks would make a difference, but still this continues to happen.
Haven't seen any reply from Avid as to what could be the actual cause for it.
I have an iMac and use 2 external monitors that are hooked up to a splitter (they run "mirrored" from the splitter). I set the externals to be the "main display" and the iMac to be the "secondary". One of the externals is in the studio and the other in the booth, so this allows me to read scripts and control a session and menu functions while in the booth or in the studio.
If Pro Tools is launched right after booting up, any left/right scrolling in the editing window (which I usually place in the iMac screen) will result in very slow screen redraw, which makes moving around in the editing window far from smooth and quick. I discovered that moving the editing window to the external monitor fixed it temporarily.
This behavior happens only in Pro Tools. Any other apps with windows that scroll up/down, left/right work fine.
I tried different suggestions made in my other tread, including tweaking Beam Sync, but nothing really worked. Only thing that has worked, which I've been doing everyday after booting up:
- open System Preferences
- click on Monitors
- click on the Arrangement tab
- switch the display arrangement so that the iMac is now the "main display"
- launch ProTools
- open any session
- go back to System Preferences
- switch the display arrangement so that the external becomes the "main display" again
- go back to ProTools
- hit shift+command+O to open the top session from the "recent" menu
- hit "do not save" (to avoid windows being saved in the wrong size/placement)
Only after this whole sequence, scrolling left/right in the edit window will be smooth and quick.
Earlier this week I discovered Automator, which I had never used before. Started testing it but it won't work because the action "click-drag-drop" to switch the menu bar from one display onto the other won't be "recorded" by Automator. I've been searching for clues on a way to make the switching of the main display possible to Automator (like a shortcut) but no success
Any new suggestions/clues will be highly appreciated.
