Let me preface this by saying this is pure speculation.
We all know Waves said 'no way' to aax-dsp and that's been debated to death. What I'm wondering is did they have some idea of what was coming down the pike regarding Avid's new licensing policy and sensed people might jump ship for another daw platform? Now I know Waves's decision is quite some time ago and the Avid licensing deal has just made the light of day but these things don't happen that quickly and was probably being kicked about for sometime.
