Hello people. I just wanted to see if I could get some clarity on some simple questions that I'm not being able to find an answer for because my level of expertise with recording is well, non-existent and I think most people are asking much more advanced questions in general. I recently got Pro Tools 11 with the Mbox 3 to get started and I have had success with figuring out how the basic stuff works so I'm up and running...sort of.
I'm trying to record one guitar track through the Mbox while having my guitar running through my amp (I also have a pedal box which I would like to use for Pre amp purposes and effects which I might use in the future if possible). The problem is that the sound I'm getting through the Mbox Headphones jacks is a very simple, ugly sound that is not even close to what my amp sounds like in a live environment. My first thought would be that I need headphones and/or monitors that can handle the signals that are being sent through, but I wanted to make sure before I go making the plunge as I might be making some extremely noob mistakes here.
To give you an idea, the guitar is connected to the amp (a Blackstar 100 6L6 Tube Head, which in turn is plugged to an Orange Cab 2x12) and then I'm connecting the amp to the Mbox 3 Line Jack through an "Emulated Sound" jack on the back of the amp. I'm not using the "Effects Loop" jacks or anything else. On the Mbox, I have some PC headphones plugged in which are probably and most definitely not suited for this kind of thing, but I do get stereo sound from them. I get sound through the Mbox and I'm able to record, but it sounds incredibly "digital" and cheap compared to the live sound I get from the tube amp.
So what am I doing wrong? Everything? Nothing? A few things? Feel free to roll your eyes but I would really appreciate your responses. Thank you.
