Avid MC Mix and Macbook pro networking fix

My 13" MBP retina has only USB and 2 Thunderbolt connections.

No configuration with a TB to Ethernet dongle works consistently.

Many hours of trouble shooting, routers, switches, and network control panel fidgeting.

No working solution.

Like magic, I bought a TrendNet USB3 to Cat5 dongle and the connection is solid and repeatable.

No router is used. Static IP’s set. Saved in a location preset in the networking control panel, so I can go back to my standard DHCP setup for internet.

This is not plug and play. The dongle needs drivers installed to allow it to interface with the OS. They come on a CD so a trip to the TRENDnet site is needed to download the driver if you don’t have a usb optical drive for your MBP.

I hope this post saves someone else some time.

This is the exact model I ordered from amazon:

TRENDnet USB 3.0 to Gigabit Ethernet LAN Wired Network Adapter for Windows, Mac, Chromebook, Linux, and Specific Android Tablets, ASIX AX88179 Chipset, TU3-ETG

Tested on:

2013 13” MBP

Mavericks

PT HD 11.2.1

EUCON software 3.2

Avid MC Mix
