Boom Pole noise?

I've been working on a few scripted TV shows lately (Bates Motel, The Returned, Ray Donovan) that all have this odd sound in the boom tracks. Its a hollow, metallic sound that makes me think its some weird movement or handling of the boom pole that's getting recorded. Once my brain tuned into it, I couldn't stop hearing it. Two of the shows have the same production mixer on it, but the third is someone different.

Is this a new emerging problem, has this problem been around forever? Is anyone else experiencing this?!
