A question for you big time audio post guys

For you big time audio post guys out there...

What's up with all the nonsensical sound effects in movies and TV?

I was watching a TV show tonight and the web cam that some girl was using was beeping as it was blinking to indicate it was recording. Webcams don't have speakers on them, so how could it make a beeping sound?

Or how about when a bomb is counting down, and it has a digital timer on it? The bomb has to make a beeping sound every time the counter ticks by. What bomb maker in their right mind would attach a speaker to a bomb that they were trying to hide?

Or how about all the dumb sound effects that guns make? I mean like just the handling noise every time someone raises or lowers the gun. Like when a guy is holding a pistol at low ready, and then raises it before shooting, it always has to make a full slide racking sound.

And don't get me started on suppressors. I've shot suppressed firearms and machine guns. At most, if you are shooting subsonic ammo you'll hear the clicking sound of the bolt and action of the firearm. If it's a higher power cartridge you will always hear the sonic boom of the bullet. Why does every suppressed firearm have to make that stupid high pitched ppfftt ppfftt sound?

Who's call is it to put all these retarded sound effects that don't make any sense in reality into these movies and TV shows? Is it the sound designer? Or the director? Do they do it because they are morons who live in a fantasy world and have never held, let alone shot a real firearm?
