Pro Tools 10 altered default sample rate

I have been doing heaps of recording using the fast Track 8R interface. This is set to use the Internal Clock (Pro Tools 10). As default this is 44.1

After recording I wanted to overlay a MIDI track with a new version so I tried to open the previous Pro Tools session. But got the message "... current sample rate does not support 44.1 ...".

So I open the Fast Track controller and its set to Internal (which means you can't change the sample rate on the hardware it simply gets it from teh DAW) and sample rate is showing as 48K.

I have created some 20 protools sessions at 44.1K and not turned off the fast track or PC or changed any settings in Pro Tools.

How do I access the previously recorded tracks? I can't find anything that explains how protools decides its sample rate when opening. Shouldn't it simple refer to the sample rate in the saved file?
