Glyn Johns drum method for big drum sound within PT?

Hello,



Can someone please explain to me what the Glyn Johns method for drums entails (see attachment)? The included attachment shows 3 microphones being used. How does this method achieve the results it does...a big drum sound? I would be interested in trying to achieve this big drum sound using third party drum samplers (e.g. SSD4, EZ Drummer, Superior Drummer 2, etc.). Any suggestions???
