Midi to audio mishap!

Hello! right to the point...

I am unable to convert my midi to audio files. I set the output of the midi to an unused bus, and the input of a stereo audio track to the same bus, hit record on audio track and its supposed to be mirroring the midi track right? Well instead the sound of the midi channel is muted and everything else plays.

no idea whats going on! have followed different videos online and still cant figure it out. Can anyone maybe shed some light? Thank you!
