Pro tools 12 student eligibility

Hi there, Im currently at a sixth form in the uk studying music technology A Level, I have applied and been accepted at a university to do music technology and was wondering if I would be eligible for pro tools student. The reason I'm curious is I have a friend who got PT 11 student version whilst at a uk college studying music technology btec which is the same level as an Alevel. He didn't have to show them an email ending in .edu. So I'm wondering if the have changed the rules in the past few years.
