Autotuning one Stereo Source as opposed to Dual Mono?

For instance…recorded an instrument with two mics, not evenly spaced, one closer - one further back for more room. say i want to gently caress the track with AT, I can put them on a Stereo Track and AT them together(which would be way easier) or AT them as separate dual mono tracks. I’ve been trying both ways and am convincing myself it sounds better doing it as separate tracks but I dunno if it’s pyschological or not.
