for those of you who like to have an additional screen with hotkeys, this is cool. Steven Slate is definitely in the trenches, you can tell he works with PT day in and day out. He does have his finger on the pulse, to a certain extent.
Now for the regularly-scheduled nay-saying: Not my cup of tea, I prefer to have my screens and control surface and KB+M, and nothing else (thanks for Skootch, Bob Nagy!)...
My favorite is the process Slate says "you're gonna love," which does nothing more than the first few steps of beat detective (2:21). It is neat to do it with with the touch screen, I'll give him that - but the process shown seems to imply that everything has been beatmapped already - which makes me wonder who exactly would use that particular batch script. Also, keep in mind the alternatives: keyboard shortcuts, the upcoming PT iphone app, hotkey matrix, Dtouch, etc.
Good job Steven, it's always cool to see this kind of thing even if it doesn't fit my own workflow. When can we expect a track group display in VCC 2.0 like we had in VCC 1.0?

Slate Remote for Batch Commander 2.0 and Raven 2.0 The Batch Command system that originated exclusively on the RAVEN control surfaces was a revolution to audio engineers. By providing a sophisticated macro system that could perform tasks in seconds that would normally take engineers hours of manual labor, it became one of the most acclaimed features of the RAVEN. At AES 2014, Slate Media Technology released the Batch Commander standalone application for Pro Tools, giving any user the Batch Command functionality without the need for a RAVEN console. Now, at NAMM 2015, Slate takes the Batch Command System to a new level with the updated Batch Commander 2.0 software for both Pro Tools and Logic Pro X, as well as the addition of an iOS remote for iPhone and iPad. See the entire system in action at Slate Media Technology NAMM booth 6921. |
