Roland MIDI Thru 11R

I am trying to get a MIDI signal from my Roland TD3 thru my 11R into Studio One. I have in instrument track set up for all inputs, and while I get a signal from my Alesis QX49, I do not get one from my TD3 thru my 11R. I am assuming that I do not need a separate interface for my drums. I have the Local off on the drums, a MIDI cable between the drums and the 11R, and a USB to the computer.I'm new at this,so don't be afraid to cover the obvious.
