What are the main differences between the two?
So I think I ran into a weird issue when I first initially setup my Mbox 3 about a week ago. I was having a delay in my headphones when I spoke and all the research I did on the net would not fix the issue. The first session I opened up after installing pro tools was the demo track that came with pro tools called "Stars and the moon". This had a TON of **** loaded into the session and to make a long story short my issue appears to have been some type of delay module, sound effect plug-in etc... that's loaded into pro tools when I opened up that demo session (I'm unsure where to go in pro tools to disable all those modules, can someone please tell me?). The issue is when you open up that "Stars and the moon" session and you go to open up/ create a new session that damn delay will follow you everywhere you go (unless you know how to turn it off OR you totally close pro tools and then specifically open up the session you want. Otherwise because of that demo session modules.. it's stays live and will taint any other session you open or create afterwards unless you know how to turn it off.
When I initially setup the Mbox 3 I think the first thing I did was plug up the power to the mbox (Boy was that a mistake) and from that point I took my attention to the software install (Downloaded pro tools, updated it, installed the correct mbox 3 drivers etc..) Then the last thing I did was plug the FireWire up to the pc. I didn't know this at the time but this caused Pro Tools to work in Stand alone mode (All due to how I decided to power on my mbox. If you power it on without the firewire plugged into a PC = Operates in stand alone mode. If you power on the Mbox with the firewire already plugged into the PC = PC Mode). I think I somehow ended up in stand alone mode while hooked up to my PC or something? I think that's why my control panel "disable host control" didn't work properly prior to
My intentions were to use it in PC mode from the jump. So I noticed in Pro tools 12 Device Control Panel. I didn't have the option to "Disable host control" or if I did it didn't do anything! So after days and days of trying to fix this delay in my headphones when I speak into the mic I finally try turning off the mbox and then turning back on. When I turned off the mbox 3 from the power switch on the back, it turned off as expected. When I turned on the Mbox 3 from the power switch from the back NOTHING HAPPENED. no life whatsoever in the mbox (I got scared) then I unplugged it from the back and plugged it back in. Immediately it powered up.
Now I noticed when I open up the device control panel I have the ability to check and uncheck "Disable host control" and when I disable (check) the host control button (disable pro tools from running stuff) I notice the delay goes away immediately. When uncheck (allow pro tools to manage it) the delay came back. So The delay came from Pro Tools but the inability to free myself from the host control was due to me being in standalone mode.
Anybody know any other differences in mbox 3 with Standalone mode vs PC mode?
My question is, what are the main diffrences in running Mbox 3 in stand alone vs PC Mode?
The only difference I've notice was under the Device Control Panel in pro tools 12 when finally setup in PC mode I had the ability to check and uncheck "Disable host control" whereas before in standalone mode I don't think I had that option.
