I've spent the past 5 days trouble shooting this.
At this point I have reinstalled the OS (mountain Lion), reinstalled PT, replaced all internal drives, replaced all RAM and had apple do a 24hr diagnostics on the machine which came back 100%.
I mix for a living and this is a huge problem as everyday I fall further behind schedule.
5 days ago I opened up a mix session for a recall and the cursor would take 10+ seconds to highlight windows and I get the spinning wheel when I even try and move the mouse accross the screen.
Opening a fresh brand new session from a completely different drive has has the same issues. Although it starts a bit slow, if I add any tracks (auxes) or plugs it gets slower and slower until I get the message that I should increase my HW buffer size (which is maxed). I tried mixing a string quartet this morning which was 6 tracks 32/96 and its stopping giving me the cpu too slow error to increase HW buffer.
I NEED this to work. I purchased an avid support ticket which is ridiculous for 80bucks but the purchase went to my studio partners email and I cant reach him.
I'm running a 5,1 Mac pro 2.8 Quad core 16G ram, but it is NOT the mac. Logic runs like a champ, zero issues no matter what I throw at it.
HELP!!!
