Hello everyone, I often browse these forums but rarely post however, if it is one thing I have learned about these boards is that it seems to be the best place to go regarding Protools so if anyone could help me it would be greatly appreciated, thank you in advance!
First let me give you my specs :
Interface : M-Audio Firewire 410
DAW : Protools 8 M-Powered Version 8.0.5
OS : Windows 7 Home Premium 64 Bit SP1
Processor Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Quad CPU Q6700 @ 2.66GHz 7.2 3.7
Memory (RAM) 6.00 GB
Graphics NVIDIA GeForce 8400 3.7
3071 MB Total available graphics memory 5.3
Primary hard disk 333GB Free (466GB Total) 5.3
Windows has been optimized with classic "tricks" ex : power settings, paging file x3 of RAM, all visual effects are killed and windows looks nice, plain and crappy ;) lol. My PT is installed to my system drive (plenty of free space) and the sessions I work on are done on a dedicated external HD (which has never had any issues)
So here is my problem, I work on some plugin intense projects for mixing and what not and usually my computer handles these projects with no problems, I adjust my buffer settings and any problems go away. However as of late pro tools seems to be locking my whole system up. I will add a plugin or make a change to a plugin parameter (this has happened both with 3rd party AND non 3rd party plugins) and all of a sudden if there is audio playing for instance it will go to hell in a hand basket and everything glitches out and leaves my system completely locked forcing me to manually reboot.
I thought maybe I may have been going a little TOO intensive on some of the wrapped VST's (FXpansion wrapper) so I got DDMF / Blue Cats patchworks to rid myself of that issue, but still I have the same problem. I have done every "tweak" i can possibly think of to my OS and still the same result, I have killed startup programs, made PT a high priority in task manager, messed with my paging file, and still the same result. Mind you, I am on a pretty fresh OS install, and I even recently did a fresh PT install recently as well and still the same result. One thing I came across recently is it seems that most pro tools has a "Rtas engine" option, to dedicate a certain number of processors to that format, however that option does not exist in my pro tools. I am curious about why that is? It seems that where everyone has that option in the playback engine, I instead just have a host engine box (for clicks and pops). My sessions are never super super automation intensive, I do great AUX/BUS work and send everything away, I never use non dynamic / EQ plugins on an actual audio track in other words I don't know what to do.
But I have some paid work I have officially passed my deadline for and I have to get this mixing session done, so I turn to the badasses here on this forum to hopefully help me. Any suggestions? My M-Audio drivers are up to date, now, before I did my clean install of protools I got a notification saying PT had a critical update, but when I clicked it, it took me to AVID's site to download, and the link didn't work. Could this be a contributing factor?
Thank you all so much for your suggestions and help in advance, I really hope I can resolve this issue with your help.
