I'm working on a mix for a friend. We've got a vocal track, 2 acoustic guitar tracks, a piano track, a flute, drums, and a bass. The song will start out with just one acoustic guitar, then the vocal coming in. Then the piano kicks in on the chorus (along with bass and drums, and maybe the flute). The second guitar doesn't kick in until after a bridge.
So, here's what I'm wondering. When both acoustic guitars are in, it sounds really nice to have them panned one L and one R (at about 40 or so). But, if I start the song with just the one guitar panned L, then it kinda makes everything a bit "left heavy" until later in the song when other parts come in. Not so much a problem with where to pan the flute or the drums.
But I would be curious for suggestions on how you'd handle 2 acoustic guitars, a piano and a vocal when it comes to panning decisions. Thanks.
