Let me start by saying that I haven't done anything with MIDI in 20 years now, but I'd like to get back into it. I recently purchased the hardware listed in my profile (if it doesn't come up by default, I'll edit this post - not sure how the forums work yet).
I installed Pro Tools 11 on my Dell Precision M6800 notebook and immediately received messages on startup stating that no hardware could be found. I did some looking around and found that ASIO4All would probably help me out, so I downloaded and installed it. That works for Pro Tools 11, but now my system slams into a wall when I try to run YouTube videos through Chrome, or try to play anything in WinAmp.
I understand that ASIO4All is a single channel driver and only one application can have access to it at a time. The Dell Precision uses a RealTek driver, so it's not really powerful in regards to configuration. I did some further looking/googling and found that I can use an ASIO multi application to get this to work properly, but you have to configure each program to use this.
Here are the questions: Am I going the right way trying to configure a multi client? If so, how do I get my browser's sound to use ASIO4All? Should I be looking into getting a USB sound card and running both (I've seen posts that say this works)? Should I have some sort of external hardware device, and if so, which one?
All I want to do is to record/play music on my laptop in a portable setting using MIDI and the Air 25. I appreciate any help you can provide.
Hardware:
Dell Precision M6800 Notebook
Pro Tools 11
Native Instruments Komplete 9 Ultimate
M-Audio Air 25 MIDI Controller
Thanks,
Mark
