I'm working on a mix with a live Cajon track. The Cajon was recorded in a studio with a Blue Mouse mic down near the hole at the back of the Cajon and 2 AKG 414s in stereo pair set about 3-4 feet in front of the box at about knee level. The mouse gets all the boominess of the lower end of the Cajon and the AKG's picked up the "snare" and mid-top range nicely.
I"m having a devil of a time trying to eq and compress this properly so it cuts through the mix properly. I have 3 Cajon tracks - L/R mono for each of the AKG's and 1 for the mouse. There's some additional rhythm stuff going on with the Cajon tracks (shakers, sticks, etc) some bass and vocals.
At first I tried to EQ/Comp the Mouse more or less like a kick, but that is TOO boomy! I tried doing the AKG's more or less like a snare...but that sounds twangy to me.
Any thoughts, ideas, suggestions? I've never done Cajon before...
Thanks!
