Problem with recording a send off an insert channel (Time shifting)

Hi there,

I'm having a problem trying to record multiple stems in a session using mainly outboard running through inserts.

When I set up the session with Aux channels containing inserts as follows

e.g

Vocal: insert on aux channel assigned as. out 13/14 -> Comp/EQ -> in 13/14

Guitars: insert on aux channel assigned as out 11/12 -> Comp/EQ -> in 11/12

Drums: Insert on aux channel assigned as out 9/10 -> Comp/EQ -> in 9/10

All these auxes then go to the stereo out.

When I play they are all perfectly in sync etc from this stereo out/ on the monitors (delay compensated etc)

When I want to make individual stems of these auxes (e.g. to allow me to do level adjusts or deliver to a remixer) I run into a problem with the recorded stems I am hoping I can get some help/sage advice on.

My ideal way would be to create a send for each aux (e.g. Buss 9/10, 11/12, 13,14) to an audio channel that records each of these individual Auxillaries with the inserts (so I would push record and end up with 3 stem files vox, gat, drums all perectly aligned (just like I am hearing from the stereo out)).

However, what I get is that the stems recorded, but no longer aligned timing wise (they are out by quite a lot…).

Does anyone have a work around of how to get something like this happening so i can reliably and phase aligned record multiple stems from Auxillaries with inserts?

Or do I have to forget using inserts and just send each Aux out an out (9/10, 11/12, 13/14) and then create audio tracks that have the corresponding inputs (and these record tracks go out the stereo out). This method has the problem that any tracks I am not sending out an output to an input no longer being time aligned with the tracks that are going in/out. I can of course work around this by sending everything that isn't going out my Comp/EQ hardware loops (9/10, 11/12, 13/14) out their own loop (e.g. 15/16). But that seems like a pretty poor work around in this day and age.

I am quite confused why this delay is being introduced into the stems recorded (and why it is different for each stem) when as far as I understand (obviously incorrectly) sending the aux with insert to a buss (an audio track for record) should be a carbon copy effectively.

If I set the audio record channels to a different stereo output and jump between the Insert Auxes and the Record channels that Input Auxes play in sync, the record channels are wildly out (e.g. 2800 - 5800 samples).

Any help much appreciated on how to get a reliable system working for creating multiple stems time aligned.
