Recording Audio/Setting Input Levels PT10.3.9/Mbox 2

When I record a vocal on a mono audio track, I have to set my Input (1) knob almost all the way clockwise in order to hear any audio, or see the green input level on the track window, but as you are aware, the waveform is off the chart (track), which makes it very difficult to work with. Please See Screen Shot 1.

So what I have done is to lower my input level to where the waveform is small and easier to work with, but, I am unable to hear the audio, or see the green input level on the track window, (which is at -60 or -32). What I do in order to hear it is - to increase the volume (gain) on the audio clip to the max level, and also increase the volume level on the Mbox 2, but even then, the audio is on the low end and I still have to hear the vocal above all the other tracks. Please See Screen Shot 2.

I use a Shure SM58 mic (probably not the best for vocals), and the cable is a 3 pin (XLR) on both ends, and plugged into the Input Mic 1 on the Mbox 2. The signal is working because I see the green level, but I also have to practically be centimeters from the mic if I set the input level before the peak.

I have always encountered this problem with my Mbox 2 from the very beginning and I have just worked with it, but now, it’s time to figure out why this is happening and solve the issue.

If anyone can help, I would really appreciate it. Thank you.
