Recording Issues

I have just reset my I/O/Bus paths to default so I could receive a signal from my interface. Now when I hit record and play the stop button lights up and halts the action. I am using Pro Tools 11 student version with iLok. I am recording to an Audio track as well as an aux track. I have tried each separately as well and have the same result. My interface is a US-144 MKII but that shouldn't matter since i can see the signal. I also can not hear the signal but that may be a separate issue.
