PT11 and Mac Mini 2012 Screen Resolution

I'm running PT11.1.2 on a 2012 Mac Mini with Mavericks i7 2.3 quad core with 16gb of ram. The HDMI port is going to a 39" Insignia NS-39D310NA15 LED HD 60HZ TV. My issue is that the mix and edit windows are so enlarged that it's difficult to navigate on screen when working. Regular Mac functions aren't an issue to view because they are at a comfortable view setting without any zoom. The only screen resolution option the Mac gives me for a non fuzzy screen is 1600 x 900. A few other options are available on the Mac for output options but they are all fuzzy. I want the windows to be zoomed out but still clear enough to read the fine print of areas. Is there a way to make this work by going HDMI to HDMI and modifying something on the Mac? There is not a DVI option on the TV, just a pair of HDMIs (one is an ARC) and Composite input.
