I'm having a too few firewire ports issue, and the hub I bought to fix it hasn't worked. I need to know what kind of hub will work with my mBox Pro 3rd Gen. The one I bought, which is the Sonnet mini one, including one firewire 400 (for the mBox) and one 800 port (for my designated recording hard drive), doesn't work with my setup. The computer cannot pick up the mBox Pro when it is going through the splitter / hub. This is true with different cables, and it is true even when the mBox Pro is the only thing going through the splitter / hub. The Sonnet definitely works other than this, because the computer is able to pick up my hard drive when it goes through it.
What I had tried before buying the hub was the daisy chaining recommended in these forums, going first through the hard drive, then through the mBox. This didn't work well, it led to the following error:
"The audio device buffer underflowed. [bleep]If this occurs frequently, try decreasing the H/W buffer size in the Playback engine panel or remove other devices from the audio firewire bus. [bleep]6085
When I did as the error message suggested, and removed the external drive from my chain, instead recording directly to my computer's built in hard drive, it all worked perfectly. So I am fairly certain that the issue is the daisy chaining.
I really don't want to invest in another hub and have it not work, so I'm hoping that someone can recommend one that the mBox pro will definitely be able to go through.
My computer is an iMac (21.5 inch Mid 2010, 3.2 GHz Intel Core i3 Processor, 4 GB 1333 MHz DDR3 RAM (though I'll be putting more in soon), operating system is Mountain Lion.
Any suggestions much appreciated!
Thanks,
Noe
