No iLok, LE 8 to 11

Okay, so right now I am running LE 8 with an MBox 2 on my iMac with Mac OS X 10.6.8. I would like to upgrade to Pro Tools 11, and also to Mavericks, since it is now supported. The only problem is I lost my iLok. Actually, I don't remember EVER using the thing. I know I had it at one point, but never used it. I originally had bought LE 7, installed it and used it, then upgraded to LE 8, installed it and used it. All without plugging in the iLok. Now, when I go to purchase the Pro Tools 11 upgrade, I see that it says I need the iLok 2nd Generation. Do I actually need this to install and use Pro Tools? I'm just lost because I never used the thing and to me it's just a useless piece of plastic...
