Hi guys,
I was wondering about a new (second hand) system. A friend of mine sells his Mac Pro 1.1 (2006 model) with a 2 duo core 2.26 ghz Xeon processors, 11 gig of RAM and a SSD drive into it.
My rig currently exists out of a Macbook Pro (late 2008) with 2,8 ghz duo core, 8gig of RAM and fusion drive.
I'm running Protools 10 HD with a Focusrite Saffire Pro 26 i/o and a Saffire Pro 10 i/o.
I was wondering what the posibillitys are with the Mac Pro of my friend. Possibilitys like working with plug-ins RTAS instruments or even VST instruments via a VST host plug-in for Protools.
Most of the time i'm just working in "the box" with scoring instruments like East West Symphonic Orchestra and a lot of Kontakt 5 plug-ins. I'm also using the Komplete 9 bundle.
As of effects/EQ/Dynamics/etc.. I'm currently using most of the stock effects from Protools and the scoring plug-ins it self. But i'm still exploring more plug-ins on the market, so there has to be some room expandability in the future in processing power..
i really don't know what to expect on the specs of the mac pro vs my macbook Pro.
Maybe from time to time it is a wise step to get a second hand Protools HD 1 or HD 2 set? Will there be a big difference in that? Or is this just for direct audio processing for recording a lot of input tracks at the same time with the lowest latency? Does for instance a virtual instrument like NI Kontakt take advantage of the DSP power of a HD core/accel system?
I hope you guys can make this clear for me!
Thanks a lot!
