I posted this thread here last year Can't drag MIDI into Transfuser basically asking about the missing "drag and drop" MIDI feature in Transfuser. If you read the thread, you'll see that I was told that this feature had been dropped since version 2.02.
Or..... was it??? :D
Nope, the feature was not dropped entirely :-) You are still able to drag MIDI files into Transfuser, you're just not able to drag them from the Timeline (Pro Tools) or Main View (for Logic users like me)! I can drag any MIDI file from Logic's built in Browser right into any Seq module, and it works almost perfectly.. now here's the snag:
Transfuser's drum pads are hard wired to respond to MIDI notes C2 - B2. Now, MIDI drum loops typically follow the GM conventions; where the kick drum falls on C1 and everything follows ascending chromatically. So unless your MIDI drums are mapped from C2 upwards, Transfuser's sequencer will not be able to read the file correctly. This is a HUGE pain, since all of my drum loops and probably any drum loop you'll ever come across starts on C1. The workaround for me has been to transpose the MIDI drum loop up an octave and then re-export this as a new MIDI file, which is okay when you're dealing with one file.. but gets real crazy when you have like thousands of MIDI drum loops like I do...
What I hope to see in a future update is re-mapping of the Pattern switch keys as well as the Drum Pads. Pattern switch keys should start on C0, and Drum Pads on C1, like how it is everywhere else in MIDI drum land. OR better yet, flexible mapping for both the Pattern keys and Drum Pads.
So, if you have Transfuser and would like to import your MIDI drum loops into the Drum-Seq to be edited further, first make sure you transpose the MIDI notes up an octave (assuming that they start on C1, which they most likely will). Have fun!
