YO! Want to know what makes Pro Tools 11.3.1 HD launch in 25 seconds???
After upgrading my Mac Pro to OSX-Yosemite and Pro Tools 11.3.1 HD I had to get a coffee incl. breakfast first until Pro Tools finished loading (typically 10 to 15 minutes incl. loud fan noises...).
I checked and tried everything until I realized, that not only Pro Tools but also Logic Pro X took forever on the same machine, while displaying "Initializing Midi".
When I then saw the repeated "Midi core initialization error" messages on top of that on every fresh start of Logic after booting (and after the last Logic update), I had the "AHA" moment.
It turned out the culprit was my MOTU Midi-Driver and the Apple Audio-Midi-Studio setup, where it showed to my surprise more than 600 (!!!!!) connected midi-interfaces (with every new scan a few dozen more of these ghost interfaces were added)!!!
Since (I guess) some folks use bigger Midi-Interfaces like the Motu 128 Midi Express XT or even the older Midi Time Piece AV USB (I use two connected as a network for 16 Midi in/out), I'm probably not the only one with the problem described above.
So I figured (after 200 cigarettes) what you have to do is...
1st. - get the newest MOTU Midi Installer (it's working in a communist fashion for all Motu Midi Devices) http://ift.tt/1usi4pa and install it.
2.nd. RESTART your Mac
3rd. do NOT launch Pro Tools or Logic until step #7 below is finished)!
4th. after rebooting open the Apple Audio-Midi-Studio Setup and immediately create a new profile, let's say "2015 default). Do that really immediately, since when you wait for 10 seconds, the Apple Midi-Studio manager will hang and become inaccessiblke! Wait for the Midi-Scan of your new preset to finish until your Midi Interface/s show/s.
5th. After that DELETE the "default" preset, so that only your preset named "2015" is displayed in the list and made active by selecting it.
6th. go back to your preset "2015" and make your cable routings if desired
7th. RESTART your mac!
8th. Open Pro Tools after reboot (or Logic for that matter) - Launch speed for both 25 seconds MAX GALORE!!!!!!
