For those looking for an alternative for PT there is, as I have mentioned to others here, Digital Performer. Version 9 with a bunch of improvements dropped today. A bunch of new plugins and a couple of bundled synths that were formerly separate pieces. MIDI note mute is finally a reality which goes along with the already excellent MIDI capability that DP has had for years. Certainly way better than anything PT currently has.
A 30 day fully functioning demo is available but the servers are swamped big time. The Mac version is a bit over 1 gig; no idea what the size of the Windows version is.
If you currently have DP8 installed on your computer DP9 will NOT overwrite that install which is a good thing. ;)
