Short version: PT 11 crashing completely randomly, sometimes not for 5 or 6 hours; sometimes 3 crashes in 15 minutes. Cannot find ANY consistency. Been around and around with Avid support. No success. Been searching here and other audio-related forums off and on for a few months:
Situation:
I got a whole new rig in January, specd it out where everything was fully compatible with itself. I actually wiped and installed Mavericks when I first got my computer as I wasnt sure about Yosemite yet.
Crashes are random, no pattern, and can be as sparse as 5 or 6 apart hours or as quickly as within minutes. Always a hard sudden PT shut down w/Send to Avid crash reporter.
Crashes have occurred under the following conditions:
-11.2.1, 11.2.2, 11.3 and 11.3.1 on Mavericks and Yosemite
-ANY and ALL plugins configurations, no matter what I move in or out of the Plugins folder
-tested it with 3 different HDs to rule that out
-even tested it once with an old Duet just to rule out the Symphony IO, still crashed
-Symphony, Omnisphere, Waves and UAD have been through various software and firmware updates, crashed before and after no matter what
-airport wifi turned off or on
-tested RAM and its all good
-switched cables around
-big session or small sessions, all-audio or audio/MIDI or MIDI only
-buffer settings dont matter
When I first got the rig, I had PT 10.3.9 on this rig. Rock solid. Couldnt even make it stutter. I also use Logic X all the time, and havent even had a blip of an issue. Rock solid.
I went back and forth with Avid about it all for several weeks. Sent them all my crash logs. They couldnt figure it. Everything they said to try, I did, and yet crashes were and are still occurring.
Ive been using PT professionally for years. Ive always been a decent trouble-shooter, and have sorted out anything Ive ever dealt with in the past within a few days through some researching or healthy troubleshooting methods on my own, but this one has me flummoxed beyond anything Ive seen before. I canNOT figure it out.
This isn't a PT11 hate thread--just trying to sort out the crashes. It appears from research that people with my same setup are scooting along with 11 quite nicely. I want to join that club b/c I really like 11.
I just read about turning off Spotlight on the audio drives. Ill give that a shot, but Im not hopeful considering Ive already used different drives, etc.
What have I missed? Any thoughts?
Current Rig/Setup:
Mac Pro 6,1 trash can
3.5 GHz 6-core
32GB RAM (matched)
Mac OS 10.10.3 Yosemite
Apogee Symphony IO w/Thunderbridge (firmware & drivers up-to-date)
Two external thunderbolt G-Tech HDs as my session & sample drives
PT 11.3.1 (currently)
Plugs:
AIR & Avid plugs that come w/Avid download
Waves v9 Horizon
Omnisphere 2
NI Komplete 10
Melodyne
UAD-2 Satellite Thunderbolt w/various UAD plugins (firmware up to date)
CamelCrusher
Klanghelm VUMT
Valhalla Room
All plugs up-to-date and fully compatible w/PT11 according to their spec pages/info. My first go-to obviously was the CamelCrusher, Klanghelm and Valhalla as they're smaller 3rd party developers, but it still crashes w/o those plugs in the folder. Same w/any of the VIs or Melodyne.
