Hi all,
so I have been working with splitting out a project I am working on so that I can split out the different sections and I have a question on my process.
I have drums, keyboards, lead vocals and backing vocals. All of these have separate AUX channels with Compressor, Reverb, Delay and EQ on separate AUX channels and after that the AUX FX channels route to the submix before hitting MIX Bus and the final master.
Is this chain correct? Pro Tools seems to be having issues with this setup, even though cpu is at 20% and memory is at 50% when playing back all the tracks, everything gets very sluggish in Pro Tools and eq'ing on the fly while the mix is playing is pretty much impossible.
Is it this routing plan that is causing pro tools to stall? Would I just be better placing FX directly onto the submix channels? I believed by adding AUX FX channels it would enable me to mix the effects levels individually on each instrument set before go to the main submix channel.
So to recap:
Instrument -> FX Channel -> Submix Channel -> MIX Bus -> Master
Hardware:
Windows 8.1 on Quad Core 3.6ghz with 16gig of memory running through an Eleven Rack onto dual monitors (32" 4k and 30" HD)
