Hey guys.
I thought I'd share my experience of getting Pro Tools 10 to work and not work with Yosemite as it might encourage others to do as I'm doing after a few painful weeks.
Firstly, I think the only way to get Tools to install is through changing the OS X number on terminal which is easy enough. Changing it back proved a little more difficult for me but I edited the text file back to state "10.10" on another computer as none of my Apple applications would open and transferred it over.
Easy enough.
"Great - I can use my VST>RTAS wrapper and 32 bit plug-ins now" I thought. The only downfall seemed to be the inserts/busses/plugins list.
I then started to run into real difficulty. Sessions would crash with a "Segment Fault in Main Thread at address 0x0" error on certain sessions. Even opening backups would create the same error. Shift-clicking to open without plug-ins would clear the error but then the plug-ins wouldn't reactivate. None of them would, so I'd have to reinstate every plug-in on every channel one by one and adjust the settings. This happened on one of every ten sessions.
Then the thread count error occurred when zooming in and out of the edit window. It was really starting to bug me.
When I tried to look for a fix I didn't find one whatsoever. It's apparently just because the OS is incompatible and because of this I couldn't take it up with Avid. Then Steven Slate Trigger and Trigger 2 would both freeze over the window when closed and the only workaround was dragging them to the bottom of the screen to freeze there when closing them, so they'd freeze there and not over the mix window. But then the next few plug-ins I'd open after Trigger would also freeze, so I'd have to drag them away from the screen to close them too. Annoying, right? :(
I tried to continue on 10 since I discovered a graphics fix for the glitchy plugins list graphics and it seemed that my workflow was back on track. But now since buying the Steven Slate plug-ins, which initially wouldn't load until I'd freshly installed them a couple of times I really really can't use Tools 10 on Yosemite. I started mixing for hours, mainly using the new plug-ins on one session. They froze on the screen as Trigger does so I restarted Tools and opened the session. And I'm one again receiving the main thread 0x0 error.
Other errors occasionally include:
Could not create a document as there is not enough memory (-108)
Error #-5000 while verifying your authorization - Unknown error
I've changed disk permissions, reinstalled PACE and my iloks and plugins are working fine with Pro Tools 12.
Now I'd really not recommend anyone tried 10 on Yosemite. I'm an hour away from begging Apple for an App Store version of Mavericks to dual boot and run Pro Tools 10 free of bugs.
