Hello, I work in a cinema and television mixing/dubbing facility where an S6 was installed just a few weeks ago (V2.0 software).
We're still discovering things and testing but there are a few things about layouts that remain unclear to me from what I've tested and read in the documentation.
First of all, the layouts do get saved along with the Pro Tools session, it automatically recalls the set of layouts with it. But, how does it really work ? I don't see any new files or folders in the Pro Tools session folder. I guess it's contained within the .ptx; why doesn't an Import Session Data bring the layouts set along with the desired tracks then ? Is there an option to do it ?
I'd like to understand how it really works so that I'm able to figure out what to do when something doesn't work as expected.
Secondly, when we have layouts loaded and we close the Pro Tools session to open another, the layouts stay but when we load them they stay all blank. Which is normal, I guess, but I was asking myself if there is a way to "relink" or "match" a layout from another session to a new one.
The real question is how the S6/Pro Tools identifies its tracks : is it based on names ? Meaning if I have two tracks with the exact same name on two different sessions, the S6 will find the matching names and will allow to use the other layout ? Does tracks have a unique ID ?
I don't know if I'm being clear, but I want to understand the mechanics of it. The documentation is omitting a lot of technical information.
Thanks for your time, looking forward to read your answers.
