Is disabling hyperthreading a good idea?

I had an issue last night where my system wouldn't playback....

I checked my CPU usage and it was 100%...it was hovering around 9% normally for this session.


I checked the individual cores and only one had peaked to 100%....then I got a tip from someone on the site about disabling hyperthreading.....

Is it avid approved? is it kosher? does it help performance?
